The Art of our Community

Welcome to the LAGS

The Lunenburg Art Gallery Society was founded in 1972 under the auspices of the Heritage Society, initially to provide a home and display area for a collection of paintings by noted local artist, Earl Bailly. LAGS has since evolved into an independent non-profit society with approximately 150 members and our bright Lincoln Street gallery is a popular art destination. Open March to October, visitors are thrilled with the diversity and quality of the art available in our Gallery, at PLAF, and in our other programs.

About Our Gallery

Everyone is Welcome

We welcome artists with every level of skill and experience. You don't even have to be an artist! All you have to do is join.

In 2021 we will mount a new Member Exhibition on the first Friday of every month, April - October. For an annual membership fee of $40 ($20 for students) every member can participate in each of these shows.

We are a volunteer-run gallery and we encourage all members to donate time and skills if possible. Please note there is a 40% commission on all sales of artwork.

Waterworks on Paper - An Exhibition of Print

The Lunenburg Art Society presents "Waterworks on Paper - An Exhibition of Print"

A collaboration of The Mahone Bay Printmakers and The Ottawa Gatineau Print Connective.

This exhibition of original prints is the culmination of an exchange project involving 11 printmakers from each of these two printmaking studios. Basing their work on the theme 'Water', and using diverse techniques, the artists created a matrix or plate and ran 24 identical prints. When collated the result was 24 collections of unique prints. [view exhibition online here]

Running alongside this special exhibition, our monthly Members Showcase features work from more than 50 local artists with a wide range of experience, style, subject matter and price range.

Please note that due to COVID there will no opening reception this year, and would ask that customers please use debit or credit when purchasing artwork.

Member Showcase + BLUENOSE 100

Join us as we honour 100 years of our Canadian Icon, the Bluenose!

In celebration, we are asking our 100+ members to create Bluenose-inspired artwork, in any size and style they choose. This promises to be a very special exhibition, and a fantastic opportunity to take home a one-of-a-kind piece of maritime history.

Visitors may also see the Bluenose II as she sets sail on a summer-long tour of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and PEI, her schedule starts in June and continues through until the end of September visiting nearly 50 ports.
