Celebrating 50 Years!

Welcome to the LAGS

The Lunenburg Art Gallery Society was founded in 1972 under the auspices of the Heritage Society, to provide a home and display area for a collection of paintings by local artist, Earl Bailly. LAGS has since evolved into an independent society with around 150 members and our bright Lincoln Street gallery is a popular destination.

The Art of Our Community

Everyone is Welcome

We welcome artists with every level of skill and experience. You don't even have to be an artist! All you have to do is join.

In 2022 we will mount a new Member Exhibition on the first Friday of every month, April - October. For an annual membership fee of $40 ($20 for students) every member can participate in each of these shows.

We are a volunteer-run gallery and we encourage all members to donate time and skills if possible. Please note there is a 40% commission on all sales of artwork.

June 3 - July 31

Special Exhibition: Earl Bailly's Lunenburg

Evern "Earl" Bailly (1903 – 1977) was well-known for his lifelong artistic accomplishments and his engaging personality. Stricken with polio at the age of two, he lost the use of his arms and legs. His mother, a school teacher, taught  Earl to  hold a pencil in his mouth and write. Spurred by an unquenchable love of the sea, nature, and the fishing life of his community, he learned to paint with a brush clenched in his teeth, developing a remarkable talent for painting.

As part of our 50th Anniversary celebrations we will be mounting a rare special exhibition of paintings of local scenes by Earl Bailly. Opening reception TBA!
