Once in Awhile

Group Jobs

If you're stretched for spare time, there are lots of jobs that are low-commitment and only need volunteers once in awhile.

  • HOSPITALITY: Helping set up a table and refreshements for our opening receptions on the First Friday of each month, June - October. You can come a little later and pour wine or help keep things looking pretty, or stay late and help clean up. You can also bring in savoury or sweet treats for our refreshment tables.

  • INTAKE/OUTTAKE: We switch out our monthly exhibitions on the Sunday and Monday before each opening, and always need 2-3 people to help each of those days between 1-4pm. It's the best way to meet most of our artists and get a first look at the artwork each month. Even if it's just a few days a year, we'd love your name for our list of reserves.

  • MINOR UPKEEP: If you're available to pop in during the season or even between rentals during the winter, we'd love to hear from you. We also need a few folks with working arms to give the gallery a fresh coat of paint over two days during the last week of March.

  • GALLERY HANGERS: in the event of an emergency and we need folks to hang a show. It doesn't happen very often but it's good to have back-up!

  • SCHOOL SHOW: LAGS host an exhibition every March of artwork by local students grades 6-9. Meet the teachers and help get some art on the walls. We could also use someone to completely run this event if anyone with an education background is interested.

Always Needed

Gallery Attendants

Our gallery couldn't function without our team of volunteer gallery attendants. Wednesdays thru Sundays from 11am - 4pm, our members are available to sell art, engage with visitors, meet other artists, become familiar with the gallery and take part in the future of our organization. We average over 150 members each year and there are only 140 shifts to fill so even one or two days helps a lot. Let us know if you need training and an experienced volunteer will show you the ropes and stay until you're comfortable.

If you'd be interested in any of these jobs, thank-you! Just add your name below and we'll reach out as needed.

Are you a leader?

Orphan Committees

Below are just a few examples of committees that have been missing leadership in recent years. If any of these sounds interesting, or if you have ideas for a completely new committee or outreach effort, let us know at gallery@lunenburgartsociety.ca.

  • LUNENBURG ARTS FEST: For many decades, LAGS ran a popular plein air fundraiser every summer called Paint Sea on Site. After the pandemic, it was rebranded as Lunenburg Arts Fest (LAF) and opened to all artists with less focus on plein air. The volunteer who organized the event retired after 3 years and though there are many willing members who would love to help, we've never found a replacement organizer. If this sounds like something you'd like to spearhead, please let us know!

  • SOCIAL MEDIA: Daily updates on sites Instagram and Facebook. This could be done by an individual or multiple people. We'll give you a folder of each month's artwork, a list of each exhibition's inventory and the login codes for whatever media accounts you'd like to focus on. the LAGS instagram account has just shy of 2500 followers and we'd love to show those folks some art!

  • VOLUNTEER COORDINATOR: We're looking for a new 'people guru' who can oversee our membership, train new sitters, monitor the calendar for unfilled shifts and get in touch with volunteers on the sitter list.

  • EARL BAILLY: Currently a small group of otherwise stretched volunteers, The Earl Bailly Committee could use a visionary leader to further awareness of this legendary Lunenburg artist.
