Frans Aeyelts paints vivid watercolours of Nova Scotia's varied land and
seascapes. He has a deep understanding of marine subjects as a result of his
offshore sailing experiences. He sells prints of his work ($25) locally at
the Lincoln Street Gallery, 264 Lincoln St, Lunenburg. During the summer months,
prints are sold from the colourful Art Cart at 108 Montague St., Lunenburg.
Frans was born in the Netherlands where he received his formal education.
He first studied graphic design, followed by industrial printing techniques
and management. It was the fine arts which captured his imagination in the
end, allowing him to express himself without restriction.
His other interest was the ocean which led to employment with Fisheries and
Oceans in Nova Scotia. This offered another opportunity to study various aspects
of offshore sailing. Eventually he did sail his own home-built boat to the
West Indies.
Frans returned to drawing and painting however, and gradually took on a teaching
role. Classes are offered in drawing and watercolour techniques at the Lincoln
Street Gallery. Other art related endeavours include conducting workshops
and commission work (house, garden and boat portraits).
